The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has expressed strong disapproval of comments made by Congress spokesperson Sonali Sahu regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Odisha, stating that the people of the state will not forgive such remarks.
During a press conference, Aishwarya Biswal, the state president of the BJP's women's wing, emphasized that such comments are unacceptable in a civilized society. She stated, 'It has been a habit of Congress leaders to make remarks that go beyond decency. We want to know from the Congress spokesperson whether her comments are personal or an official party statement. The people of Odisha will not forgive them for such remarks. Congress should refrain from making such inappropriate comments.'
Sahu had commented on Modi's visit to Jharsuguda, saying, 'We welcome the Prime Minister according to our political tradition, but my question is, why is he here, and who invited him? Previously, he declined an invitation from U.S. President Donald Trump to visit Odisha at the behest of Lord Jagannath. This time, whose invitation did he refuse? Kangana's?'
During his visit on June 20, the Prime Minister mentioned that he had politely declined an invitation to dinner from the U.S. President. BJP MP Kangana Ranaut also criticized the comments.
She remarked, 'Narendra Modi is the Prime Minister of India, elected three times by the people for this responsibility. He can travel anywhere in the country and work for the development of the people. Why is my name being dragged into this without any reason?'
In response to inquiries from a news agency, Sahu defended her comments, stating, 'I did not say anything wrong. She is a member of parliament and a BJP member. What is wrong with mentioning Kangana's name? As a woman, I referred to a female politician.'
